Cute As A Bug ~ Pinterest & Etsy Inspired

Everyone who knows me very well knows that I have an affection for certain insects. Dragonfly’s, Butterflies, and Ladybugs are some of my favorites.

I had a request to come up with a Ladybug card/invitation. I was sent a photo of something that she found on on Pinterest, but it didn’t WOW me so I went searching in more detail on Google and found my way to Etsy where I found this This card has the wow factor and for me it’s the little black button like features! The red gingham drives my eyes crazy, but its fun and dazzling for sure.

I took a look at my PC Gypsy and searched for Ladybug to see what cartridges I had that might help me make mine. I lucked out and found the Ladybug on the Cricut Paisley cartridge on the button key! This is on page 49 and without the search field on my Gypsy I’m not sure I would have noticed it. It’s perfect for what I wanted to do.

20130407-230117.jpg

The circles and scalloped circles are from Mini Monograms Cricut cartridge. I used the Cuttlebug with the Swiss Dots embossing folder on the small scallop circle. This adds a lot of charm to the card.

20130407-230319.jpg

I really liked the border that Terri added to her card and I have that punch from Stampin Up so I went with it. I think it would be cute with the heart punch border to, and I may play with that later on.

20130407-230721.jpg

For the buttons and the flowers I went to my go to Close To My Heart Artiste cartridge. I cut the black buttons out of glitter paper from Hobby Lobby and they are .50 inch and super detailed but cut perfectly using the multi cut feature, blade set at 6, speed Medium, and pressure was set at high on my Cricut Expression.

All of my paper for this project is from Hobby Lobby and I can get 4 base cards out of a 12×12 piece of card stock. It’s an economical card to make and would be easy to make a quick set of cards to give as a gift to someone.

Exclusive Art Philosophy Twisted Easel Card

20121129-210824.jpg

Today’s card is my 2nd Twisted Easel Card and all the cuts are exclusive to Close To My Heart Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. I am having a great time using the great cuts on this cartridge!

I posted my first Twisted Easel card earlier this week and put all the sizes and names of the cuts on that post. The cuts of the bird is .75 inch and it cut perfectly! The detail on the cuts is amazing on this cartridge and they cut amazingly well at small sizes. Just one of the reason I love this cartridge.

20121129-211709.jpg

This card is for a friend and her family and I made it with them in mind. For me there is nothing more calming and peaceful than nature and this adorable little bird on a perfect branch is just the touch I was looking for.

20121129-212826.jpg I popped my little bird up using some dimensional tape.

20121129-213038.jpg
The inside of the card has some lace ribbon on it and three flowers that are on this great cartridge. I also added a few pearls that I had on my craft island.

20121129-213552.jpg
These flowers are so easy to make and take seconds to put together. I added some Ranger Denim Stickles to the inside of my flowers for added bling and color.

20121129-214221.jpg

Be sure to click here to see my first post that has the link to the video tutorial for how to make your own Twisted Easel card and the measurements for my base card cuts. My card stock is all DCWV and I used Ranger Distressed Inks, and applicators.

Art Philosophy Twisted Easel Card ~ Live The Life You’ve Imagined

20121126-221819.jpg

I saw a video that Beate at Splitcoast Stampers did on a twisted easel card last week and was inspired to play with this idea using some of the great cuts on the Close To My Heart Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. Here is one of the cards I ended up with! Be sure to click on the link above to watch Beate tutorial to see how to make this great card.

If you are not familiar with this Cricut cartridge from Close To My Heart you must take a good look at it! I highly recommend it. It has 700 cuts and addresses every season and major holiday. It and the Artiste from Close To My Heart are my go to cartridges for most projects.

20121126-223336.jpg
I started with Circle4 on page 61 of the Art Philosophy handbook and welded them together to make the base of my card. My card is oversized at 10.44 inches but you can adjust the size to fit your needs and designs easily using CCR or Gypsy or Design Studio. I cut the extra top layer at 5.5 inches tall.

20121126-223857.jpg

The inside layer is Circle1 (yellow print from DCWV) is cut at 4 inches and is found on page 21 of the Art Philosophy handbook. I added a piece of ecru lace ribbon and some ribbon at Michaels using sticky tape to adhere it.

20121126-224439.jpg
Next I added three flowers using the shift font image on page 68 of the Art Philosophy handbook. Flowers do not get any easier than this! I love the flowers on the cartridge! So easy, so cute, and cut at 1.5 inches they cut like a hot knife in butter. This paper is textured with a gloss finish and they cut perfectly the first time. Blade at 6, speed and pressure on high on my Cricut Expression. I added some extra bling around the flowers from my stash.

20121126-225520.jpg

Okay back to the front of my card. Another awesome cut from the Art Philosophy cartridge is this font layer shift cut on page 68 at 4 inches high. It cut perfectly and I used a glittery paper that is pretty thick from DCWV so I used the multi cut feature and let it cut 2 times at a med speed. My blade was still set at 6 and pressure was set at high. The inside layer is the circle1 cut I used previously but this time is set at 2.8 in tall. I used some Ranger Distressed Inks Wild Honey and applicator to distress the smaller Circle1 cut. My sentiment is stamped using a Tim Holtz clear stamp set (Journey) using Rangers Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I stamped one of the images from this stamp set on vanilla card stock scrap in a tangerine ink and fussy cut it. I popped it up using some adhesive tape. I really like this image of this stamp and am happy to have it in my collection!

20121126-231946.jpg

I spent more time trying to decide what papers to use than I did designing, cutting, and assembling this card. It’s that easy using a great cartridge from Close To My Heart and some inspiration from Beate over at SCS!

Etsy Inspired ~ Mickey Mouse Invitations With Art Philosophy and Artiste

My adorable grandson is turning 3 on Christmas Eve! It’s time to get his birthday invitations started!

20121104-190308.jpg
His Mommy found this invitation on Etsy as the inspiration for this years theme. Our little man is really enjoying the The Mickey Mouse Club show on cable so she is doing a Mickey Mouse theme.

20121104-192215.jpg
I do not own a Mickey Mouse cartridge. I have been scouting them out on eBay for a week or so but have not won a bid at my targeted price range. Today I went on Cricut.com and downloaded the manual for Mickey and Friends to see in detail all that is on the cartridge that I might use on other projects. I played with some of the images in Cricut Craft Room for a little while today but got nervous about running out of time to get these invitations made before the end of this month.
I went back to my text messages to see my daughters inspiration again and decided to see what my home made Mickey would look like using cartridges that I own!
The Gypsy is my preferred design tool so after charging her up I was set to start making my own Mickey Mouse. I used the Close To My Heart Art Philosophy and Artiste Cricut Cartridges to make him! I love being able to use the cartridges that I have to get what I want. Having the Gypsy, Design Studio, or the CCR is a must have to getting maximum use of your cartridges. That being said I may still get the Mickey and Friends cartridge but it takes the pressure off so I can try to get it at my price point. I love making shaped cards and this cartridge is great for that!

20121104-193608.jpg
I used the basic circle on the CTMH Art Philosophy cartridge to make his head and ears. I had the image from Mickey and Friends on Tab1 at 6 inches tall on my Gypsy. I used this image as my guide for getting the shape of his ears as close as possible to their image. I tried using several ovals but they just didn’t work right so I went back to the circle and use the rotate tool on the advanced tab to get the image as close as I could.

20121104-194407.jpg
The buttons are on the Close To My Heart Artiste Cartridge. I love these two cartridges from Close To My Heart because they offer so many cuts that are great for all styles of crafting! I cut them on some retired designer paper that goes with the color theme of her inspiration piece. I plan to add liquid glass to them to make them stand out a bit more.

20121104-194946.jpg
I trimmed a piece of card stock to 3.5X7.5 and scored it to closely match the inspiration piece. I added a simple piece of ribbon with a brad for my sample. I love this look and think it would make a great thank you or birthday card too!

20121104-200506.jpg
All women like options so I made a few more options for my daughter to choose from.

20121104-200752.jpg
This one uses a large scallop on the Art Philosophy with a small scrap of ribbon and a brad from my stash.

20121104-200929.jpg
This one uses the starburst shape on the Art Philosophy cartridge. Love it too!

20121104-201114.jpg
The last option is the small scallop edge from Art Philosophy and it’s the one my daughter likes best! I love it too!

20121104-201311.jpg

Now to make about 20 more! The Gypsy makes this so easy and so does Design Studio and the CCR, I am just more familiar with the Gypsy. Don’t be afraid to try new things using these great tools! The CCR is free so jump in and see what you can create too!

Congrats Baby Diaper Card ~ Cricut Artiste Cartridge

20120904-200255.jpg

Here is another favorite cut on the Close To My Heart Cricut Artiste cartridge! It’s on page 64 using the card feature. It went together super easy and oh so fast! From start to finish, after choosing my papers I had this card designed on my Gypsy, cut, stamped and assembled in 30 minutes! No adhesive was needed on the diaper.

20120904-202011.jpg
The diaper was cut at 5.26 height. The Diaper pins are on the same page using the accent 2 key. They were cut at .75 height. The Congrats was cut at 1.12 height and is on page 62.

20120904-203127.jpg
The inside of this card is cut at 5.10 and 4.45 height. I inks the edges of both layers on the inside of the card.

20120904-203504.jpg

The sentiment is cut from the Close To My Heart Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge on page 53. The coordinating stamp set comes with the Art Philosophy Cricut Bundle. It tells you to cut this shape at 2.0 height right on the stamp set! I wrote the page #’s on my clear acetate so I would know what page they are each on.

I took a blue marker and drew a heart around New Baby and added some blue bling. I had some red ric-rac in my ribbon scrap jar that I added to the sentiment.

This card will make awesome baby announcements, shower invitations, and all sorts of cute cards!
