My adorable grandson is turning 3 on Christmas Eve! It’s time to get his birthday invitations started!
His Mommy found this invitation on Etsy as the inspiration for this years theme. Our little man is really enjoying the The Mickey Mouse Club show on cable so she is doing a Mickey Mouse theme.
I do not own a Mickey Mouse cartridge. I have been scouting them out on eBay for a week or so but have not won a bid at my targeted price range. Today I went on Cricut.com and downloaded the manual for Mickey and Friends to see in detail all that is on the cartridge that I might use on other projects. I played with some of the images in Cricut Craft Room for a little while today but got nervous about running out of time to get these invitations made before the end of this month.
I went back to my text messages to see my daughters inspiration again and decided to see what my home made Mickey would look like using cartridges that I own!
The Gypsy is my preferred design tool so after charging her up I was set to start making my own Mickey Mouse. I used the Close To My Heart Art Philosophy and Artiste Cricut Cartridges to make him! I love being able to use the cartridges that I have to get what I want. Having the Gypsy, Design Studio, or the CCR is a must have to getting maximum use of your cartridges. That being said I may still get the Mickey and Friends cartridge but it takes the pressure off so I can try to get it at my price point. I love making shaped cards and this cartridge is great for that!
I used the basic circle on the CTMH Art Philosophy cartridge to make his head and ears. I had the image from Mickey and Friends on Tab1 at 6 inches tall on my Gypsy. I used this image as my guide for getting the shape of his ears as close as possible to their image. I tried using several ovals but they just didn’t work right so I went back to the circle and use the rotate tool on the advanced tab to get the image as close as I could.
The buttons are on the Close To My Heart Artiste Cartridge. I love these two cartridges from Close To My Heart because they offer so many cuts that are great for all styles of crafting! I cut them on some retired designer paper that goes with the color theme of her inspiration piece. I plan to add liquid glass to them to make them stand out a bit more.
I trimmed a piece of card stock to 3.5X7.5 and scored it to closely match the inspiration piece. I added a simple piece of ribbon with a brad for my sample. I love this look and think it would make a great thank you or birthday card too!
All women like options so I made a few more options for my daughter to choose from.
This one uses a large scallop on the Art Philosophy with a small scrap of ribbon and a brad from my stash.
This one uses the starburst shape on the Art Philosophy cartridge. Love it too!
The last option is the small scallop edge from Art Philosophy and it’s the one my daughter likes best! I love it too!
Now to make about 20 more! The Gypsy makes this so easy and so does Design Studio and the CCR, I am just more familiar with the Gypsy. Don’t be afraid to try new things using these great tools! The CCR is free so jump in and see what you can create too!
